Yamba sits at the mouth of the Clarence River on the NSW North Coast. Its days naturally move between the river, beaches, headlands and the nearby coastal landscape.

The Visit NSW Yamba guide (opens in a new tab) places the town between the Clarence River, beaches and national-park country. Main Beach, Turners Beach and Pippi Beach offer different ways to spend time near the water, while the lighthouse and breakwall help orient a walk around town.

Water conditions and beach access change. Check local conditions and safety advice before swimming, surfing, fishing, paddling or walking exposed headlands. From May to November, whales may be visible offshore; plan on observation from a safe distance.

Clarence Valley Council identifies Bundjalung, Gumbaynggirr and Yaegl peoples as Traditional Owners across the Valley. Its First Nations information (opens in a new tab) includes Yamba among the represented communities. The Council coastal study identifies Yaegl Country at the lower Clarence estuary, including Yamba; read its cultural context (opens in a new tab) with care and follow guidance around cultural places and knowledge.

Use Yamba as a base rather than a checklist. Confirm access, conditions, opening times and any bookings directly with relevant authorities or operators. Take sun protection, water and suitable footwear for headlands or longer coastal walks.
